I am not someone who is hard to figure out. All you have to do is look at me, and you’ll know instantly that I am a big supporter of gun rights in the United States. I was taught these ideals by my father, and he was taught by my grandfather. I will teach my sons and daughters how to shoot, maintain, and respect a gun. You can bet your socks that I wear gun t-shirts, no matter what kind of activity I take part in.
Hunting and gun ownership usually go hand-in-hand with one another. As a gun owner, I am often in the fields during the prime deer hunting season. I shoot well and bring down my prey with efficient, painless shots. I feel that hunting really lets you understand the power that you wield in your hands as a gun owner, and gives you a certain respect for that power. I have a certain selection of gun t-shirts that I wear when hunting, all themed around the sport. My friends at the deer processing center really get a kick out of them.
I realize that I have made a complete goof of myself in some really public places because of my gun t-shirts. I have found myself in yelling matches with gun haters who want to see guns more heavily regulated. If my wife or kids had been there, I can’t honestly say I wouldn’t have done the same thing. Since I stopped wearing those kinds of shirts while out with my family, those outbursts quickly stopped. Lesson learned.
When I am hanging out with my close buddies, it is a whole different ball game. I don’t care if my friends are embarrassed by me getting into political debates when we’re together. Frankly, all of my friends feel the same way too…they just aren’t as aggressive about the topic as I am. I don’t hold that against them, though. The gun t-shirts I wear around my friends are usually really insulting to people who are against gun ownership, and I’ll never be caught apologizing for that.
