MrPoliticsGeek Humor Political Blog: “Speak English if You Want to Live Here”

MrPoliticsGeek! The Political Blog of Common Sense!
The Average American Political Analysis through a young voice of America!

Recently, Tim James, a candidate in the Alabama gubernatorial race, made a campaign ad that stated “This is Alabama. We speak English. If you want to live here, learn it.”

Does Tim James, aka “Common Sense”, really live up to his name?
Or is he about to be roosted by MrPoliticsGeek?

    @TheVinVlog hey …
    @TheVinVlog hey VinVlog! i saw ur channel! I’m on the Speech Team at my high school, which is slightly diff than a debate team. Speech includes acting, public speaking, and limited prep public address rather than a straight up debate. Thanks for asking!

  • MrPoliticsGeek:

    @aonsager13 …
    @aonsager13 actually, i think GHPro17 voiced a similar opinion a cuple days ago & u guys r spot on comin from a political standpoint. To use the populist sentiment in an econ situation lik this is political savvy in AL where only 2~4% actually speak another language at home, hardly “idiotic” as I claim in the vid. I guess I wanted expose difference b/t a politician’s “common sense” & the average American’s “common sense”! but u bring up a good point aonsager13!

  • TheVinVlog:

    Are you on a debate …
    Are you on a debate team?

  • aonsager13:

    This ad is all …
    This ad is all about political posturing and your analysis misses that completely. He really isn’t an idiot. Certainly, the policy he describes is pointless and you make a good argument for why that is the case but I don’t think he even really buys that.

  • aonsager13:

    Sure, if analyzed …
    Sure, if analyzed from a national perspective Tim James looks really stupid. Your analysis is off the mark though. He is not trying to get your vote. He is running in Alabama, where there are a lot of conservative idiots, like himself, who would be more than willing to buck federal funding for some nationalist, conservative pride. Given the political culture of the state in which he is running this ad might help him, and will certainly not bring upon him the catastrophe you project.

    @BugBoi2 haha def, …
    @BugBoi2 haha def, i’ll make sure to incorporate more stat evidence in the next vid! altho sumtimes it can get hard to cram everythin in 5 minutes (aka attention span of ppl including myself), i’ll work to strike a good balance of humor and substance!

  • MrPoliticsGeek:

    @BrandonToddCarr …
    @BrandonToddCarr thanks Brandon! I really likd ur parody on this ad! haha

  • MrPoliticsGeek:

    @thelawrising bah, …
    @thelawrising bah, everytime i try to reply to GHPro17, there’s an error…i agree what u sid, but wat i’m most frustrated about is the fact that James wud choose this minor issue to use his ad $ over the other 20 points/issues listed in his site. I guess he rly wants to go that extra mile to manipulate the voters anger towards ‘outsiders’

  • MrPoliticsGeek:

    @naeun93 And I also …
    @naeun93 And I also found out that even if the exams are in different languages, the signs that are tested in the exams are in english! so if you want to get your driver’s license thru a different language test, it’s implied that you already know enuf english to read all the necessary traffic signs in English!

  • BugBoi2:

    Very funny joey!

    Very funny joey!
    Worth the burn of five valuable ap minutes, but next time you should add a little more statistical support behind your humor to sway those who might otherwise disagree with you or even to make a larger impact

  • BrandonToddCarr:

    You were right. I …
    You were right. I did enjoy it! :D Nice video man!

  • thelawrising:

    Joey, you crack me …
    Joey, you crack me up. We actually had a referendum similar to what James is proposing last year in Nashville that got shot down by a ratio of 3:1. I agree with the guy who said that running on populism is smart in this economy, though. Times like these make people circle the wagons. Although you didn’t mention the way that laws like this negatively affect international views of Alabama and thus makes it less likely that foreign companies will come there.

  • naeun93:

    And if language is …
    And if language is so much an issue in driving, why do countries issue international driver’s licenses? Should americans be able to read / speak german to be able to rent a car and drive it in Germany? Or learn italian if traveling to Rome and wanting to rent a car there? It’s the principles that matter, not the technicalities. (sorry about the long post)

  • naeun93:

    Even I, who speaks …
    Even I, who speaks fluent English, identify the road signs more often by their colors than actually reading what the signs say. Also, the reason for having a driver’s test is to show that one can abide by the traffic rules and can drive safely, not to show that one can speak another language–we’ve got ESL classes for that.

  • naeun93:

    I was actually …
    I was actually discussing this with my friends couple of days ago and I’m glad to see someone of the same opinion. I honestly cannot understand why a person should be limited by their heritage while driving because as long as the person understands the rules of the road (which usually involves little to no knowing of English; simple stuff like, “Yield” and “Stop” can be learned pretty easily by the lovely color coding system) he/she should not have a problem driving.

  • naeun93:

    hahahahahaha this …
    hahahahahaha this was veeeeeeeery entertaining
